The Project «Solar Silicon»

The project «Solar silicon» was included in a listing of priority projects of Irkutsk region by decree #104 d.d 09.03.2004 of the Governor of Irkutsk region.

Aims of the project:

• the establishment of manufacturing facilities on the territory of the Buryat Republic, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk Regions that would provide high-level processing of high-purity quartz raw materials of the Eastern Sayan and gaining entry into the world market of silicon intended for solar energetics with total volume of no less than 1/3 of the market;

   

• the massive expansion of application field of solar power systems due to the reduction in the price of silicon used for the production of solar cells;

   

• bringing working conditions and the pay level to the average European standard.

General description of the project

The project provides a step-by-step organization of regional high-level processing of high-purity quartz raw materials of the Eastern Sayan deposits on the basis of «Oka-K» CJSC (the Buryat Republic), Institute of Geochemistry SB RAS and the industrial site of Angarsk Electromechanical Plant.
